As far as closing your account for inactivity, that's a rumor that is not true.

Awhile back, Len (a PaperbackSwap representative) posted this very helpful comment, pertaining to all of the "SwapA" sites:

We do not remove credits or close accounts on any of the three sites just for being inactive, though we reserve the right to do so. Inactivity is a factor considered when our system points out members that are doing things that harm the club. Here are some things that cause accounts to be reviewed for closure, but these are examples, not an exhaustive list:

Fraud of any kind.

Failing to respond to or declining requests.

Failing to respond to Wish List offers. (Not the same as logging in and declining WL offers)

Not marking books received in a timely manner.

Marking emails as spam. This is due to a legal agreement we have with email providers. Each time a member marks an email as spam (accidentally or otherwise), he or she is telling their email provider that they never signed up for our site. This causes the email provider to contact us requesting that we not send that member any more email. Since email is crucial to the participation in the sites, we are forced to close the member's account.

Here is what the SwapaCD help says about your situation.  (Link to the full help doc)
Hope this helps.

If you received an email from SwapaCD telling you that a CD transaction was canceled, but you already mailed the CD, this means you did not mark the CD mailed before the deadline to do so.

  • The other possibility for an email cancellation notification would be if the requestor canceled--and the requestor could not cancel once you accessed the address information from the request.

You cannot get credit from the SwapaCD system for sending the CD, but it may be possible to get credit from the requestor (click here to find out how)--if you act promptly.

If a CD is not marked mailed by the deadline, it will cancel automatically, and the request will be passed along to another member offering a copy of the same CD.

  • If you act fast, you may be able to "catch" the requestor before the second sender prints the address to send the second copy of the CD.
  • If the requestor can still cancel the new request, then he or she will not end up with 2 copies, and will probably be happy to mark your CD received from his or her Transaction Archive when your copy arrives.
  • if he or she marks your CD received from the canceled transaction, you will get credit for having sent the CD.

Ok, so Steve was referring to the Auto-wishlist only.  Thanks, to both of you for answering my query.

What happens if a CD wish is granted, but you don't have enough credits to cover it?  Are you given an opportunity to purchase credits from the Kiosk, or does the CD automatically go back onto your wishlist until you stock up your credit count?

There's a similar thread over at PBS - Link

re Netflix:  My friend works at the local post office.  She said that she has to empty the blue-boxes outside of her PO every day, and they were told that every Netflix 'package' has to be sorted out of the main pile and placed into a separate container for special shipping (e.g., non-machinable).  That is why Netflix made their paper color very easy to spot.

The point is - these jazz cd's come up from time to time.  So I just wait patiently for them.  smiley

Wow, I sure hope they would give a warning before marking an account as "Dormant"!  I have over 40 cd's wishlisted (nothing on my 'tower') and several credits and some $ on the account. The wishlisted cd's are relatively obscure jazz, which don't come up very often.

I know, Jazz Trombone is not something that is ever-popular here on SwapaCD, but my husband is a trombone player (jazz, of course) and I have a bunch of cd's on my wishlist (Frank Rosolino, Carl Fontana and more) that he's been wanting for a long time.  If you're sitting on any of these cd's, thinking "nobody wants them so I won't post them" --by all means, post away!

Someone asked that in one of the PBS forums (here's a link).  The short answer is that you cannot transfer money between the sites at this time.

Hi Frances, sorry there are no "Requestor Conditions" (similar to what they have over at PBS) here at SACD .  As Steve mentioned, try to get some empty cases for the times that you get cd's without the case.

ETA:  LOVE your avatar, Steve!  LOL!

Hi Brandy,

Just fyi - it's a huge no-no to recycle priority mail boxes.  The post office expressly forbids it.  If they catch it along the way they will try to collect the priority price from the receiver. Then if the receiver refuses delivery or payment of the extra postage, it'll go back to the Sender, postage due.

I got one once with a triangular hole punched straight through it ...

Wow - the one damaged CD that I have received had a triangular hole in it too!

edited to add:  It was wrapped in the standard SACD wrapping.

I know the site recently went through some renovations, but one of them makes me really sad.  There is now far less information on the CD page... for instance, I used to be able to look at a Jazz instrumental cd and see the names of the musicians who played on the cd.  Any idea why this informaton is now gone?

Also, I have noticed that at least 4 cd's that have been on my wishlist for at least 1-2 years are now "no longer in the system".  Should I leave these on the wishlist or are they now gone forever?

Yow, that stinks Sheryl! I agree with you; would rather have had them not posted at all.

Add me to the "I hear ya" bandwagon.  I have been at WL#1 on 45+ jazz CD's for over two years with no wishes granted.  I just attributed it to the fact that these are rarely (if ever!) posted.  It's a good exercise in patience. smiley

THANK YOU, Darren!  I have added it to my wishlist.  Don't know why I was previously unable to find it through Advanced Search but am so grateful that you found it for me.

I am looking for this Jamey Aebersold [Jazz] CD:  Volume 27 - John Coltrane

I searched here via the UPC number (635621000278) and it is not even listed in the system.

If you have this CD (or any other Aebersold cd) please let me know.  I may be interested in others as well.

Thanks!

At Paperbackswap, there is a Print button on the wishlist, which allows you to print a nice,, easy to read list of the WL'd books.  This allows you to print  only the Title, Author, and ISBN, without also having to see all of the buttons and extraneous information for the books on the list.

Is there a way to do this, here at SACD?  I don't see any Print button...

Looking at the graph of one of my wishlist items, there are 3 of us wishing.   I am first in line for the cd and have it at position 13 on my WL.  The next person has it at around position 4000. The thid person has it near position 14,000!  Can someone really have 14,000 cd's on their wishlist (and possibly beyond) or am I reading this wrong?

Patrick, Not sure if switching to Firefox would fix your problem.  I'm using Firefox and see this problem in my posts when I press the Spacebar twice.

It finally showed up on his account page  - yup the Buyer's Remorse had kicked in - and he was able to send them both out together.

Thanks everyone for your comments!
