Synopsis

Album Description
The Way of Time is the second release for Canadian pianist, Pamela York. A graduate of Berklee College of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Pamela hails from an unlikely source for jazz talent--Nanaimo, British Columbia--unlikely, that is, until one notes that Diana Krall and Ingrid Jensen both come from the same Vancouver Island home. Pamela was a finalist in the 2006 Mary Lou Williams Jazz Piano Competition held at Washington DC's Kennedy Center and has received rave reviews for her performances. She has recorded or performed with such artists as John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Andre Hayward, Roseanna Vitro, Joe LaBarbera, and Conte Candoli. This recording is a collection of six original compositions and six standards which have stood the test of time. Pamela plays piano on all tracks and sings "East of the Sun" and "You've Changed." "Caravan" is a solo piano tour de force. Pamela's deep connection with the blues is evident on her own compositions, "Mama's Midnight Hour" and "Sphere of Influence." Her celebration of motherhood is especially evident on "All Too Soon (For Anna)", a tender ballad written for her three-year-old daughter who is growing up too quickly. "Counting the Stars" is an elegant Jobim-like bossa nova.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I really enjoyed Pamela's last cd "Blue York". However, I absolutely LOVE this new cd "The Way of Time." This album flows with energy from start to finish. It feels like you're sitting with Pamela, Mike Wheeler, Lynn Seaton, and Sebastian Whittaker in an intimate club setting. The tunes are natural and engaging. The new compositions and arrangements are simply fantastic. This is one you'll want to have in your collection, and pass on to your friends."
