CD Reviews

I listen to this nearly every day...
technobliss | Reno, NV USA | 10/19/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is so exquisite, so PERSONAL, I love it. It's basically just her pure voice and a guitar. She is entirely unlike anyone I've ever heard before, earthy, vulnerable, utterly honest. This is also one of my husband's favorite albums, odd, because other than Eva Cassidy we have entirely different tastes in music. This is one of those albums that sounds better each time you listen to it, until it insinuates itself into your very soul. It's very "still", haunting, and yet immediate. I've given it to everyone I know as a gift and they all love it as much as I. The lyrics are phenomenal. I can hardly wait for her next one!"
Listen with your heart

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was not familiar with Lori B's music, but recently caught her as the opening act for Rose Polenzani at Uncommon Ground in Chicago. She was incredible! The musical accompaniment she provided on guitar and toy piano was spare, but her voice and words were powerful in their intelligence and straightforward simplicity. She also has an amazing head of long, red hair! I met her afterward and found her to be warm and sincere. She signed her CD with the words, "Listen in the dark. Listen with your heart." I haven't turned the lights off yet, but it's impossible not to listen with one's heart to this wonderful artist as she takes you on an emotional journey through love, despair, humor, and hope."
Something very different

"A very interesting CD by a woman who seems like a true original. The musicianship here isn't stellar -- most people could sing and play the guitar as well as Lori B, but they couldn't write her wonderfully intelligent, strange, and heartfelt songs. Unlike many recordings in the folk singer-songwriter mode, there's a sharp, worldly sensibility here (and a sense of humor). Recommended for those who enjoy low-key music that is idiosyncratic and unsentimental."
