Synopsis

Album Description
In his abstract and colourful paintings, Paul Klee (1879-1940), one of the most famous German painters, has managed to maintain a childlike innocence. The same characteristic feature is true for German alternative electro-pop band, Klee and the magic of their songs. The band?s name also translates into "Clover", which calls forth associations with lush summer meadows and happiness like the bands sensibilities. No surprise that their first single release "Erinner dich" won the race for the official 2002 Popkomm music convention and later spent time in the German top 100 chart. The three band members of Klee are by no means unknowns within the German music scene. Bandmembers Sten Servaes, Tom Deininger and vocalist Suzie Kerstgens have performed together in various incarnations over the last several years. After a severe car accident involving the three of them on the way to a video shooting and an intermittent compulsory break, they started from scratch again in summer 2001, with a radical new approach based on a much stronger electronic influence to their music. To mark this new chapter in their career, they renamed the band Klee. In spring 2002, the first Klee single release "Erinner Dich" was licensed to the Ministry of Sound, Germany compilation, Neue Heimat, a pioneering release (which helped to establish the phenomenon of German Electroclash) and a platform for all the hot shots of the pulsating young German electronic pop scene. Soon after, "Erinner Dich" was covered by David Gedge (Wedding Present) and his current project Cinerama. John Peel, always digging for ground-breaking sounds, played both the original and cover version in his world-famous BBC radio show.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a lighter album than their latest album, but also nice. It's a light, but slightly edgy pop album. The remake of Heut Nacht, a Spliff song, was nice. They even use a little sample from the original."
