Great intro to Okkervil or worthy addition to yr collection
(4 out of 5 stars)
"The Julie Doiron half of this is good, if a little to similar to Cat Power. Then again there are a lot worse people to sound too much like. Okkervil River though is the highlight. Especially good are the re-tooling of "He Passes #33" (from the first album) and the previously unreleased early song "Blackest Coat". These four songs aren't the rockin' Okkervil of "Lady Liberty" or "Westfall", but are Okkervil River at their folky, introspective best. 5 Stars for Okkervil, 3 1/2 for Julie Doiron. If you haven't heard Okkervil before this could be a good introduction. If you are already a fan, this ought to tide you over until the new album comes out in September. Enjoy!"
