Synopsis

When Joy Williams sings, "I wouldn't try and kid you / I'm just an ordinary girl" on "It's All Good" from her self-titled debut release, she captures the essence of what makes this first effort so pleasant. Unlike some of her teenage peers (Stacie Orrico, Rachael Lampa, Paige), Williams centers the music on her strong and sweet vocals. She trusts her talent in the same way that the massively successful Jaci Velasquez does, confidently forgoing the latest techno-dance samplings or choreographed moves. Her record is a fresh mixture of ballads, upbeat pop numbers, and moving testimonials. "Touch of Faith" is perhaps the finest track, with ample room for Williams to tastefully show off her talent. The closing "Better Than I" and "Do They See Jesus in Me" are ballads that demonstrate this Californian is blessed with a mature voice well beyond her years. --Michael Lyttle

Now at last, the real definition of POP!

"I dont really think that much of young people's albums, they are usually bland and just repeat centuries old songs that get so pathetically boring you feel like smashing the whole CD! It is therefore a rairity when you get a CD debut by a teenager as mind boggling as this one from new girl to CCM, Miss Joy Williams. How do I begin to explain the good points of this album? Great arrangements, half pop and half light. Great for all tastes. There is even a touch of jazz on my second fav on the album, "No Less" which has to be one opf the heaviest songs in my collection. And there is a touch of the old piano based pure and stripped down songs that have so much strength. And at least the songs dont sound all the same like most other young artists cds do. The songs on here are alive and have a different message to each of the soings! My fav song on the album is definitely "Second Nature". This song makes me literally freak out in the first degree. And condiering this is a debut I would never have thought it was. Joy is a beautiful singer with a top notch voice that knocks like the ...spice girls dead! An album not to go unlistened. Pick it up as soon as any of you read this review!"

"This is an excellent CD! Contemporary Christian music fans will love this! It is a great mix of slow songs and fast songs, with a clear message of how great God is."
