CD Reviews

The best live jazz cd around!
04/16/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Joe has assembled an impressive collection of musicians for this cd- Norman Simmons is the best in the business at accompanying and augmenting a singer; wherever Joe, takes a song, Simmons follows and makes the journey all the more enjoyable- Joe pays tribute to his favorite singers/songwriters on this album- "Same Old Story" is a wonderful moment, as is "Jimmy's Blues," and homage to Williams' predecessor in the Basie Band, Jimmy Rushing. Ever the innovator, Williams and Co. deftly mate the Williams-classic, "Every Day I Have the Blues" with Miles Davis' "All Blues." And of course, there is the Joe Turner classic, "Roll 'em, Pete" to send the audience home happy and the listener back to the beggining of the cd!"
How Do You Make The Blues Feel Good?
Glenn R. Ellison | Pembroke Pines, Florida United States | 03/31/2002

"Easy, have Joe Williams sing 'em! I had the pleasure of seeing this man perform live and this recording captures that magic. This is one of the best jazz/blues recordings ever made, period. The previous reviewer mentions the contribution of pianist Norman Simons and rightly so. I can't say enough about this recording. If you're in a bad mood put this on your stereo and get ready to experience some real attitude adjustment. It just doesn't get any better."
