Ellington rarities... For pennies...

"This Mercer Ellington licensed CD can be had for just a couple of bucks! The selections are the result of down time in the studios of whatever particular city the Duke and his band had an engagement. They are from what he called his "stockpile", either new creations or reworked old favorites. There are including the title track five world premieres. The remastered sound is surprisingly excellent. The bands rendition of "Hello Dolly" is a tribute to Louie Armstrong. Money Johnson(trumpet)

mimics Satchemo's spirit, in voice too. Overall this issue is a good example of Duke Ellington's spontaneous creativity. Good liner notes on the selections included.

"Good recording quality. Duke even sings alittle on Hello Dolly (Croaking a la Louis Armstrong). Cool songs you haven't heard before. This Cd is evidence of how far ahead of his time Ellington was."
