Synopsis

Album Description
Since his explosion onto the scene in the mid-?70s, Jean Michel Jarre has become one of the best-loved and most revered artists in electronic music history. Throughout his career, Jarre has sold more than 80 million albums, earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for his legendary multi-media concert performances and influenced countless musicians. The Essential Jean Michel Jarre?s 16 tracks cover all phases of this master?s 30-plus year career. The songs pass effortlessly from the breezy techno-pop of opener "Oxygene Part 4," from Oxygene to the deep ambience and layered samples of "Souvenir de Chine/Souvenir Of China," from 1982?s Les Concerts En Chine. The standout track from Metamorphoses, "C?est La Vie," (featuring Natacha Atlas) is a dub expedition for the darker side of the dance floor. Meanwhile, Zoolook?s "Ethnicolor 1" and Oxygene?s "Oxygene Part 6" aim for the head instead of the feet with oceanic ambient wooshes and soothing minor-key melodies. Listening to this collection, one is able to truly understand the emotional power and technical ingenuity behind Jarre?s work.
