CD Reviews

Truly Stunning
Troy Alexander | Minneapolis, MN, USA | 12/20/2000

"The world and, God knows, the Honeydogs have waited an awful long time for Here's Luck to be released. It has been nearly 4 years since their major label debut, Seen A Ghost. I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of Here's Luck over a year ago (before they had signed a new record deal) and have not stopped listening since. Sonically, Here's Luck is a mind-blowing experience, each song painstakingly recorded in a manner rarely found in today's world of `3 hit singles and the rest is filler' records. Here's Luck truly is an ALBUM, completely satisfying from start to finish. For the average listener (one not as maniacal about music as myself), there's plenty to sink your teeth into. "Sour Grapes", "Piece of Cake", and "Red Dye #40" are the kind of sing-along songs that could soon be heard rocking an arena near you. These songs reflect a more straight-forward rock n' roll approach that is a sharp contrast to the country twang that permeated Seen A Ghost. "Pins In Dolls" and "Wilson Blvd" are a bit more sophisticated and filled with downright devastating orchestral arrangements. Lead singer and songwriter, Adam Levy, is clearly at the top of his craft and has raised the bar for all songwriters with the truly stunning Here's Luck. I truly believe that a year from now, people are going to be talking about how Here's Luck `saved' rock n' roll."
Other Bands have tried, other bands have failed

"This is a band that proudly wears their influences on their sleeves,in my opinion their biggest influence sounds like the Beatles. So many bands today try to scale the heights the Fab's did, I wish them all luck since the world is in dire need of melodic well played/written pop tunes. Where the Honeydogs succeed , is in the consistant quality of their material and their accomplished and creative playing. The first time I played this I gave it a quick non-attentive listen and thought, "OK no great shakes" but then I taped it to listen in my car and found out that this was one incredible recording from a very impressive band. If they keep on progressing from this level, watch out these guys are dangerous. I will be watching to see when they will play the N.Y. area and hope that live, they come close to deliver a knockout like this recording. Fans of quality pop/rock music buy this CD, you wont be dissapointed. Not only are the songs and performances great but the recording is top notch (give the engineer who got the drum sound a raise!!)."
Amazing Album

"I heard one song from this group and became instantly hooked. The track, Pins and Dolls, is a haunting example of great melody; excellent song writing and memorable hooks. "Here's Luck" is a winner from start to finish delivering the goods with great songs and excellent production. Stand out tracks like Pins and Dolls, Stonewall, and Hearts and Heads are like diamonds in a mix of fine jewels. Anyone passing on this CD will be out of luck not knowing the pleasure locked inside the CD case. For all of those who picked it up, I gladly share your pleasure. This is one great album."
