"This was released quite a while ago in Switzerland, with the title 'An introduction to Indian classical music'. This album five different Ragas.It starts with the sound of Tampura (drone instrument) which sets the mood of Marwa. Marwa is full of pathos, and it is brilliant on Santoor.Then there are three short pieces -- Rag Hameer, Rag Kamod, and Rag Kedar. The listener will be surprised to see how quickly the maestro sets the mood of the Raga. Rag Hameer is one such example where the starting phrase - lasting less than 5 seconds - sets the mood of Hameer which is devotional.It is rare to hear Hameer and Kamod on the Santoor.The last track has Bhinna Shadaj which is a light and romantic raga. It ends with a fast tempo composition.This is a very good album for folks who are new to Indian classical music. The tabla accompaniment by Zakir Hussain is excellent.HPR"
