Synopsis

Album Description
2009 live archive release. Rockpalast was, and remains, one of Germany's most popular music television shows since it debuted in 1974. Commander Cody was the guest on July 1st, 1980. Art student George Frayne had already reached cult status with his band Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. Their music consisted of Boogie, Rock 'N' Roll and Country (albeit the latter not of the "perfect world" variety but with an edge), all performed with high spirits. The audience enjoyed a cheerful performance which had them all move their limbs. 17 tracks. SPV

CD Reviews

Commander Cody "The Commander Proves Blues Rock Rules" = A V
Gary Covington | Louisiana | 07/13/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is an outstanding, "Aggressive", "Blues-Rock", "Boogie Woogie" concert, by the Commander & His Lost Planet Airmen. The "Head Commander", Cody is a very, aggressive, entergetic frontman, and he can sure play the piano with an aggressive "Boogie-Woogie" style. This is pretty much, "high-entergy", rock & roll. This is a great concert, that was filmed back in their "prime" on July 1, 1980, however it was only released on DVD, this year. It consists of 17 great songs, and has an approximate running time of 71 minutes.

The line-up consists of:

Commander Cody - Vocals, Piano

Steve Mackay - Saxaphone, Vocals

Tony Johnson - Drums, Vocals

Bill Kirchen - Guitar, Vocals

Doug Kilmer - Bass, Vocals

Peter Siegel - Pedal Steel Guitar, & Guitar

The song set consists of the following:

1. Thank You Lone Ranger

2. Two Triple Cheese

3. It Should Have Been Me

4. Beat Me Daddy 8 to the Bar

5. Seeds and Stems

6. Who's Got the Rock?

7. Go to Hell

8. Sea Wolf I

9. Rocket 88 - (The old Ike Turner Song from the late 1940's, performed "high-speed" Commander Cody style.)

10.Midnight in Memphis

11.Stealing at the Seven Eleven

12.Rock That Boogie

13.Ubangi Stomp

14.Hot Rod Lincoln

15.Riot in Cell Block No.9

16.Roll the Dice

17.Sea Wolf II (The Commander performs the song "Sea Wolf" again, because, as he explains, he messed up the words on the first performance, that is on song #8.)

Overall, this is a great concert, very well performed, and very well filmed. I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves "Blues-Rock" or just plain ole Rock & Roll. Thanks & enjoy!!!!"
