If not, I'd give the edge to Fri. & Sat. as great listening for anyone. There is not an Alto player today that has his fire and passion. He was a very personal and incredible musician. Comparisons to Sonny Stitt, Sonny Criss, Phil Woods and Cannonball are pointless. They all followed 'Bird and found their own sound. He's in a relaxed atmosphere here with a great rhythm section allowing him total freedom. George Cables, George Mraz and Elvin Jones. Shortly before he died, he said he was the world's best living saxophonist - maybe he was. As 'Bird once said "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Art Pepper certainly did."
