Synopsis

Product Description
Veteran of the Boston Hip Hop scene, REKS teams up with DJ Statik Selektah to produce his highly-anticipated sophomore album, Grey Hairs. With production highlighted by the legendary DJ Premier and production veteran Large Professor, Grey Hairs is destined to become a modern-day classic! REKS emerged onto the underground Rap scene in 2001 with the critically acclaimed fan-favorite Along Came the Chosen on Brick Records. The album was nominated for Best Hip Hop Album and REKS was named Artist of the Year at The Boston Music Awards and was featured in the Source, XXL, Vibe, and URB s "Next 100." The album's single "Skills 101" reached #45 on the Billboard Singles Chart, putting him on shows and tours with Clipse, Ghostface Killah, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Redman, De la Soul, Method Man, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Boot Camp Click, JR Writer and one of his idols KRS-One. REKS is now ready to release his sophomore studio album, Grey Hairs. The album packed with songs that are both controversial and conscious. The lead-off single, "Say Goodnight," features production by DJ Premier and finds REKS with fellow Lawrence Rap alumnus Termanology and Krumb Snatcha on the B-Side for a Statik Selektah remix. Another standout track is the incredible rap tribute "All In One (5 Mics)" featuring Lil Fame of M.O.P. "It s extremely rare nowadays to hear someone as brutally honest as Reks. This album should give hope to many of the Hip Hop fans that have yearned for quality," says Statik Selektah. Appearing on dozens of mixtapes, radio shows, and Statik's Spell My Name Right: The Album, REKS spent most of 2007-2008 flying back and forth to studio sessions in New York from his current residence in South Florida to put this album together. Grey Hairs features all-star guest appearances by Consequence, Skyzoo, Krumb Snatcha, Termanology, Jon Hope, Paula Campbell, Big Shug and Lucky Dice and DJ Premier, Large Professor, Blaze P, DC The Midi Alien, Soul Theory, DEMOBeatz, 1914 and of course Statik Selektah are all behind the boards. Both Grey Hairs and the 12" single "Say Goodnight" will be available worldwide July 22, 2008 on Showoff/Brick Records.

Reks is a very creative underground mc from Boston. Along with production from DJ Premier, Large Pro and Statik Selektah this is a great album all the way through. Say Goodnight, Stages and All In One (5 mics) are classics!

REKS "Grey Hairs"- 5 Stars
Shaun Borowski | Buffalo, NY | 07/24/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"REKS. An underground emcee from Boston on his second studio album. He's been making music from around 2001. He's been making noise on some mixtapes and compilation albums (most notably, Statik Selektah's Spell My Name Right (The Album)) and finally dropped his album. Where do I start with this? REKS is a very strong lyricist, with a powerful voice and the ability to change his style many times and still sound great (see "All In One"). He has much knowledge to drop, about the government, the state of hip hop today (he has a lot to say on the bonus track, hip hop gets a reality check), life in general, paying tribute to fallen legends, battle style rhymes, the list goes on. Basically, the man is a monster on the mic. The production... DJ Premier, Statik Selektah, Large Professor, Soul Theory, 1914, Blaze P, and some other fine producers; to me that equals a top contender for best produced album of the year, if not THE best. Statik Selektah impresses me more and more every single time he has a new project. He grows as a producer very rapidly, and is becoming one of the best producers in the game. The guest appearances include: Lil' Fame (of M.O.P.), Skyzoo, Big Shug, John Hope, Lucky Dice, Termanology (one of my favorites, and also the best guest spot on the album IMO), Consequence, Paula Campell, and Krumbsnatcha. Niether Big Shug nor Lil' Fame have lyrical verses, more just talking. Skyzoo, Termanology, Consequence, and Krumbsnatcha all have very memorable verses. This album is turning out to be easily top five of the year. In fact, I'd reccommend this over just about every other release of 2008. Seriously, go buy this. Now. Drop what you're doing and order it. At least listen to the samples, then try to not buy it.

Return Of The Boom Bap 2008
The Genius | 07/22/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Boom Bap, dope lyrics and dope beats. What more could you ask for? Working with great producers such as DJ Premire, Large Professor, Statik Selektah, Blaze P and Soul Theory it was a good bet that he would have top notch production and notable features such asTermanology, Consequence, Lil Fame and Big Shug. But the question was would he have the lyrics to back? The answer is simple Yes! But this is not a debut, Reks has already released an album which for the most part went unnoticed, but back to Grey Hairs. The One sounds like its on the wrong album, meaning this is the song Nas wishes he would have done on his new album untitled. Say Goodnight is dope of course, how could it not be with Premo on the boards. Stages is ill, nice cuts from the DJ. All In One well remind you of an MOP album, which it should. On this track they pay tribut to fallin rappers from Pac to Big L. Rise is dope, Reks shows a lot of emotion on this album. You can fell what hes sayin, hes got passion for what hes doing something missing in the current rap game. The Big Dreams Remix is my favorite cut from this album, have you seen the video? hes washing dishes, lol when was the last time you seen that in a hip hop music video? Never its all about girls, guns and cars which is unrealist for most listeners. This is just a good album for your everyday none ballin person. Pray For Me Is also dope, its nice to see someone else feels like me. Did hip hop die in the south? i have been saying this for years. Also that disgraceful proformance by Lupe at the Hip Hop Honors is also called out here. I am anti dance pop hip hop is this is the track i was waiting for, finnaly someone speaking their mind without watering it down. This is going to be one of the beat hip hop releases of the year so pick it up now, you well not regret it.
