Reasonable for Celtic music. I have gotten quite a few of these kinds of things "blind" by just ordering because I saw a good review. This is on the plus side but not the best of Celtic music I have gotten this way. I think this group has just a bit too "modern" a sensibility for my taste.

Apparently Bob Wills got together with his old band after the stereo era was in, to coin a phrase, full swing. This set includes both studio and live recordings of that group. The sound quality is excellent — especially compared to some of the very old recoveries from single-play discs.
But more than that. The band sounds relaxed and confident and up to the work technically. We hear new versions of lots of the old classics and a few new things — at least to Wills — thrown in. Overall, it seems like this is music Wills hears in his head even when he is playing in a noisy ramshackle bar with half his band made up of local pickup players. We're lucky he got a chance to record it so we can hear it too.

A pretty good album for this kind of thing. Has several songs I have not heard in other collections.

The version I have is probably the original. It has the UPC 0 7464-36703-2 and has different cover art (a photo of Kubelik). Also notice that when you click on the image of this disc to get the long info, it actually shows the cover from a Bohm version of 40/41 on DG although the rest of the info matches the Kubelik CBS CD.

My first introduction to Walser. I like this kind of music -- reminds me of Ernest Tubb. The recording is good and I expect to find more of this guy.

I got this album because of a good review elsewhere. It turns out that it is a kind of heavy electric blues that isn't my favorite. I found it didn't move me emotionally at all although there is no problem with the musical technique or recording. If you like this style already, probably worth getting. If not, this is not likely to be the first disc to get to learn to like the style.
