Several great renditions of Christmas songs by Vonda, but some not so great. Nice version of "Winter Wonderland" by Macy Gray. "River" written by Joni Mitchell and sung by Robert Downey Jr on this CD make this entire CD worth it's weight in gold, and then some.

The person who recommended this to me said only jazz banjo. And I was intrigued enough to buy it. This music cannot be easily categorized into one genre. It is exciting, fast, unpredictable, and stimulating, a wonderful mixture.

The first time I heard the Boxcars in concert, was a surprise. We had tickets to see another group, and the Boxcars opened for them. After the Boxcars performed, I was ready to leave…I felt I got my money’s worth and more. All members take turns at lead vocals and their harmonies are good, too. Adam Steffey is one of those rare mandolin players who doesn’t have that ‘high lonesome’ voice. That’s ok, ‘cause he has a wonderful deep rich voice that is a pleasure to hear (singing and talking). Keith Garrett does well with the lead vocals, with that longing, lonesome, bluegrass sound, but at the same time, he has the warm country tone in his voice. Ron Stewart and John Bowman are both excellent fiddle players….as well as banjo players! Most musicians would love to excel at one instrument and they go way beyond that. This CD is a good representation of the Boxcars show, so I would recommend that you get this CD and see them in person if they come within 50 miles of your home. You’ll be glad you did. This is sure to be one of the ‘classic’ bluegrass CDs. PS My husband does not have my passion for Bluegrass music, but he likes this band and even bought this CD after the show.

Bought this out of curiosity, but I was wonderfully surprised. It is a top notch album. Steve Martin is an awesome banjo player and the selections are interesting and varied. The liner notes and graphics are delightful and charming. If you love bluegrass or any type of banjo music, this is a 'must have.' I did not find it boring...at all, in any shape or form or way.

Play this on beautiful sunny day or when you are dreaming of one. This is such colorful jazz. Steve's piano, Bill's bass and Tim's drums are expressive and expansive.

What a crystal clear voice! Susan proves she's not a one hit wonder. I loved every single song, except the last one, Silent Night, and I didn't like the arrangement. I'm not even sure why a Christmas song was included here, but I think a Christmas CD by her (with great arrangements) might be spectacular.

I too have quite a few of Doyle Lawson CDs and this is one of the best. Excellent harmonizing vocals as usual, with Josh Swift on the dobro, Jason Barie-fiddle, Dale Perry-banjo, Corey Hensley-guitar, Jason Leek-bass and of course, Doyle playing the mandolin. If you enjoy good bluegrass gospel music, you must listen and enjoy this!

This is an excellent album for Brad. It highlights his great voice, and guitar playing and harmonizing with Allison Krauss is worth getting this CD. No wonder he's one of the top country voices today.

Great vocals, especially on 'Nobody Knows You' and 'Rescue Me.' 'Knob Creek' was an instrumental with a haunting fiddle throughout until the surprise twist at the end, but it worked! Very nice banjo in 'Ungrateful One.' 'Long Shot' was rockin' and sounded like a radio hit....ahh if the music machinery were workin' it. Over all, a wonderful set of tunes, with top notch writing and performing. And all this and without Steve Martin. WOW!

Like his personal appearances on TV, his albums seem to me to be either a hit or miss. This is one of his misses.

Title: Skaggs & Rice
Artist: Ricky Skaggs, Tony Rice
Label: Sugarhill
Original Release Date: 1/1/1980

Beautiful, simple harmonic melodies from Skaggs and Rice. And wonderful mandolin/bluegrass pickin'. To me, 100% more enjoyable than Ricky's later music. Rice is great as usual.

Agreed, everything on this CD is not the same as the movie soundtrack, but you do have the joy of listening again to Emmy Rossum and Iris Dement. As for the rest of the CD, there are some beautiful, delicate, gentle, yet haunting gems on this CD. To me, 5 out of 5 stars!

Wonderful, top notch album from 3 great voices. They harmonize so well together, with each taking turns on singing different parts.
