CD Reviews

A Great introduction to early Wire.
01/20/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Wire are distinctive, unique, and utterly original. I've heard very, very few other artists in my life that are so willing to progess and experiment. With Wire, the MUSIC is the only thing that matters, and it's absolutetly wonderful to know that you can listen to every succesive album and actually discover something knew and different and enjoyable with each one. That's true of all their album's (70's-90's), but no more so than with their first three (not so arguably their best). I've often been puzzled as to why Wire fans are always arguing and disagreeing about which of Wire's first three album's ("Pink Flag", "Chairs Missing", "154") is the best. Sure, we all have our personal favorites (mine is "154"), but can't we all just agree that each one is, simply put, a Masterpiece? Look, here's the deal. For all you unfulfilled souls out there who have yet to hear Wire, then start with this album. It's an excellent sampler of their first three albums and shows the band at their peak. Once you come to worship it (and you will), then pass it on to someone you love and proceed directly to your nearest music store and purchase the first three."
Great introduction
Geoffrey Cox | Seattle | 12/12/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"although this is no substitute for the original albums from which it draws its tracks, this is a great place to start (or renew) an affair with one of the best bands of its era. All of the songs can be considered essential and it does gather some non-LP tracks (which are included in the newer cd issues as bonus tracks). I can't praise their inventiveness enough."
Different 12XU?
Geoffrey Cox | 03/22/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"My copy of this collection has a different (sounds live) version of 12xu but i havent seen this difference listed anywhere. Not sure why its not designated (or is my copy lucky) but this version is an interesting addition to the one found on pink flag. But besides that this cd is rendered useless by having the EMI import versions of the first three (dot dash and the extended version of outdoor miner aint on the restless retro editions). It got me started so i quess I'll say its a good intro but might as well get the albums because you will anyway i assure you."
