"Overall, the CD is put together VERY well! The first piece, entitled "Winter Branches" is a sonata for cello and piano, remarkably executed by Douglas Moore and Doris Stevenson. The piece itself "evokes images of snow covered landscapes, trees hanging with icicles, and howling Winter winds." The first movement is declaratory, starting with a two bar six note statement that is used as thematic material throughout the rest of the sonata. The second movement is chilling in its sparkling serenity. I saw this piece performed live last year and "Crystal Branches" sent chill through my fingertips! The piece ends with a final movement full of textures that continue to evoke the passing of a winter storm. Very fierce music! A great way to start the CD. There are other great gems, such as the piece for guitar quartet "Voices from the Garden," a piece inspired by the visits to Ryoanji in Kyoto.This CD is an excellent buy from a composer for whom I have great respect and feel deserves more notice."
