Synopsis

Album Description
As a songwriter and a performer, Willie Nelson played a vital role in post-rock & roll country music. Although he didn't become a star until the mid-70s, Nelson spent the '60s writing songs that became hits for stars like Ray Price and Patsy Cline. In the early eighties, Nelson began performing duets with such diverse talents as Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Neil Young, and many others. Willie Nelson has proved to be a representative of American persistance under adversity and of what we call Americana.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Willie Nelson is my favorite country artist. His music has touched generations, and it will continue to. He is truly an icon. If you listen to 30 seconds of any of his songs, you are automatically hooked.

This set, 'Classics By Willie Nelson,' released on Curb Records in 2005, is a solid, 14-song career retrospective. It starts off with arguably his best song, 'Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain' and ends with the classic hymn 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee.'

Another reason to give this one a listen is for the duet with Patsy Cline, 'Just Out Of Reach.' Yes, Patsy had been dead for a long time when this was released. The original vocals were recorded by Patsy, with Willie dubbing in his vocals much later. But still, their voices are incredible together. Think of what the two would have done if she had stayed alive longer.

And, the sound quality is extraordinarily good. If you're new to Willie Nelson and his legendary music, you'll get your dollar's worth with this one. It's a great listen.

ENJOY!!!"
