Kempff most clearly delineated Beethoven's musical architecture with the best balance.

The year this session took place (1970) was an especially good time for Menuhin's ascetic deconstructive style.

Together, the Menuhin/Kempff duo achieve incisive realizations of poignancy and symmetry: they respect the Art and each other's own personal integrity: this is civilization of the highest order.

They take all repeats and their timing is superb, enjoying the maximum durée within the sharpest acumen.
