Synopsis

Product Description
What I Like About Jew is the acclaimed NYC rock duo of Sean Altman and Rob Tannenbaum, who've been called "the Bart Simpsons of the Yeshiva" by Time Out New York and "the Simon & Garfunkel of ethnic gag songs" by the Boston Globe . The duo was featured in a Time Out NY cover story on "The New Super Jews," and has been hailed in the New Yorker, the New York Times, The Onion and Philadelphia Weekly , which said: "Nothing compares to the bawdy borscht-belt comedy of Altman and Tannenbaum, who take Catskills seltzer-bottle humor to a dirty new low, with lyrics that make Lenny Bruce look like a choirboy."

Gentile or Jew... Buy This Album Already!
Bart King | Portland, Oregon | 04/17/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"On UNORTHODOX, two schlemiels revel in their Jewishness in a fun, weisenheimer way. The humor is upfront and center; sample some of the songs on-line (or just read the song titles) and you'll have a very good idea of where this album is going. It's lively material and there's some good word play. I suspect that most listeners will either want to listen and sing-along, or leave the room.

Of course, with songs like these, one worries the act will be a one-trick pony. Call it the Weird Al Syndrome: You listen to a funny song, it's funny, you're done. Time to sell the CD.

But if you save mini-classics like "They Tried to Kill Us (We Survived, Let's Eat") for annual events like Passover, the songs will stay fresh and may even take on the hallowed sheen of other annual holiday tunes like "White Christmas." (Okay, bad comparison. But you catch my drift!)

NOTE: This album does contain adult lyrics.

Two funny Jews - one of them is tall.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hilarious. Rob Tannenbaum and Sean Altman make a strong case that the Jewish experience is not all about self-loathing, anxiety and JDate. Well, maybe they don't, but their witty (and tasteless) take on the whole train wreck is very, very funny.

Their Bar Mitzvah song - Today I Am A Man - should be required listening for anyone who wants to experience the pubescent rite of passage without figuring out where to buy a savings bond. The song starts "I've got two pubic hairs and a three piece suit ..."

I have seen the live show of What I Like About Jew in Philly twice. The second time, I arrived late and sat in the back where I could see the audience reaction. As Tannenbaum and Altman worked through their set about the horror/hilarity of Jewish life, the two guys in front of me kept doubling over in laughter and smacking eachother. By the end of the show, the guy on the left literally knocked the guy on the right to the floor. Good stuff.

If you get the chance, you should catch their live act. Both guys are talented performers and one of them is taller than Jesus.

Gentiles will enjoy the show, but may want to bring a Jew to translate.

'Unorthodox' is a hilarious collection of their best songs. And ... if you buy it on Amazon, you get a discount - such a deal ..."
YAY keeps my mom HAPPY!

"I bought this CD for my mom after she heard about it on the radio. She talked about it for weeks and weeks and hinted, well not really hinted more like DEMANDED, that I get her that cd NOW! so I finally got around to it and I get to hear about it EVERYDAY! Oh and if I ever go ANYWHERE in her car even just to the convenience store she HAS to crank up the volume all the way!!! and sing along to the AWESOME songs!!! they're sooo funny and having my mom karaoke along is the best! She JUST LOVES THIS CD! its the only one she listens to now. seriously. its getting worn out so fast it has started to SKIP! I'm gonna have to stock up on unorthodox cds and gear just to keep her happy. It is one of the most entertaining things to her. I even caught her sitting in her car just so she could listen to "What I like about Jew" I recommend that everyone buy several as gifts and for themselves and if their mom's anything like mine buy her 20 copies! oh and also the caps! the caps rock. My mom also wears her "what i like about jew" cap EVERYWHERE, EVERDAY!!!!!! seriously. :-D"
