Not A Greatest Hits Colllection, But A Best Of...

"This is an ensemble of W & L's tracks from their 3 previous c.d.s after the Prince & the Revolution period. While none of the songs ever reached #1 on the charts and barely made a top 40 impression in the pop charts, Waterfall maybe being the only exception, the duo is greatly noted for their unique mixture of r&b,jazz, pre-alternative, pop-rock, and classical elements. Vocals by guitarist and lead singer Wendy Melvoin are very comparable to those of folk/rock 60's & 70's artist Janis Ian; Soft and subtle, yet she can carry a tune and flex those chords.Tracks from their 1987 self-titled debut carry a very noteable pop-rock meets classical backbone. In contrast, the tracks from their 1989 Fruit At The Bottom c.d. have a more distinct sound with regards to the famous Prince/Minneapolis funk, R&B, dance style with one gospel-inflected tune. By their third album, Eroica, it was evident these ladies had laid down the foundation to a unique style that would later be adopted by Alannis Morissette and other mid to late 90's alternative female artists(the only major difference is that Wendy & Lisa never sounded angry or rebellious)... For anyone who never heard of Wendy & Lisa, or was never a huge fan to begin with, Are You My Baby offers quite an impressive look, listen and insight to two gifted music writers and performers not to be confused with top 40 commercialized candy pop tunes or so-called artists; There was life after Prince !..."

"This collection of Wendy and Lisa is one of those cd's that you let play all the way through without having to skip any songs. They are brilliant musicians. I enjoy the remixes as well."

"I love every song listed here. I have all the CDs that each track is from. I have to say Wendy and Lisa are very talented. This CD looks like a great one to own. Eventhough I have all the CDs with these specific tracks, I am considering purchasing this one as well.
