CD Reviews

French language hair metal album
Justin Gaines | Northern Virginia | 05/03/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"France is just about the last place I turn to for quality hard rock and metal bands, but every once in a while they surprise me. Warning is one of those surprises.

Warning's sound was somewhere between AC/DC and Quiet Riot, with elements of Ratt, Motley Crue, and the early hair metal scene. It also reminds me of the early non-English Loudness albums, in that you don't know what the hell they're singing about, but you can tell that it's A) loaded with innuendo and B) the band was obviously having fun! One thing you don't need a translation for is the amazing guitar work on display. These "made for air guitar" riffs and solos will help you forget that you can't really sing along.

It's a fun album, but it's probably one that will only appeal to die-hard Warning fans or serious collectors of 80's rock and metal. If you can look past the language barrier, you should have a good time rocking out to the album.

NOTE: Axe Killer's 1998 individually numbered reissue of Warning 2 features digitally remastered sound, and in the most bizarre case of bonus material I've seen, includes a pair of 3-D glasses.
