CD Reviews

Everything you love about War of Ages... but BETTER!
TX MetalMan | Austin, TX | 04/22/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Eternal" by War of Ages is one of the strongest rock / metal releases so far in 2010. I'll tell you it is for SURE the best album WoA has recorded to date... hands down! And, that's hard to do after the beautifully brutal "Arise and Conquer" (don't believe me? Just listen to the first :15 sec. of Track 1 - All Consuming Fire).

As I stated in the title of this review, "Eternal" is everything you love about War of Ages... only BETTER! With this release, the band has taken a full step forward - whether they needed to or not. Two standout differences: Leroy Hamp keeps his signature intense warrior screams alive, but allows himself the freedom to actually sing! If you think that doesn't work in metalcore, you are sadly mistaken my friend. This point is furthered by having 3 notable guest vocalists on the album: Tim Lambesis (As I Lay Dying), Josh Gilbert (backing vocals & bass / As I Lay Dying) and Sonny (P.O.D.). The guests bring their unique tallents and texture to the album without disrupting what War of Ages is laying down.

The second is the shredding guitar of Steve Brown. Steve has ALWAYS had chops, but it seems he's let go and let the beast within OUT! You'll catch glimpses of guitar playing from an era gone by (not to mention a stylistic tip-of-the-hat to one of his heroes, Stryper's Oz Fox on a track or 2). Steve keeps the speed and brutal riffage while adding the technicality and virtuosity not often found in the hardest of hard music.

In a year that has already seen monster classic albums dropped by Living Sacrifice and Demon Hunter and a new one from As I Lay Dying hitting soon, it would have been easy for this release by War of Ages to have been forgettable. Not so. This has instantly been one of the best albums I've gotten this year and will continue to be stuck in my CD player / iPod. Again, don't believe me? Listen to the first :30 seconds of "Collapse" (the album opener) and see. Different than "All Consuming Fire"? Yes. Any less powerful? No. Indeed, we're seeing the next great metal act grow up before our eyes.

War of Ages Eternal NEW ALBUM
Crazy Ivan | 04/14/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"War of Ages New Album!!! Everyone who is a fan of Metalcore genre needs to pick that up NOW! This album definitely shows more professionalism from the band, and at the same time their style of music haven't changed. The voices have improved dramatically, a lot of nice breakdowns and sick screams. Also guitar solos are very fast and just really awesome. If you are a fan of As I Lay Dying, I am guaranteed that you going to like this. There are guest singers on two tracks (one is Tim Lambesis (lead vocals of As I Lay Dying) and another Josh Gilbert (backing vocals, bass As I Lay Dying)). I guess there isn't much to say - the album is amazing. There isn't anything negative!"
