The Wesendonck Lieder have the unusual orchestration of Henze which is a lot more modern sounding (sparser with more subtle use of woodwind) than the better-known Mottl orchestraition. This alone makes it interesting. Nes has a wonderful voice and sings beautifully here. The Siegfried Idyll is played well too. The R Strauss pieces are lovely and are captured really well here. The Dance scene waltz has lots of lilt and charm. The Duet-Concertino is really cute (clarinet = princess, bassoon = bear). So overall, a lovely disc. " |
