Metal's elite mystical circle...
Nikiforos V. Skoumas | Athens Greece, Cambridge UK | 01/15/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

""Voodoo Circle" is the newly formed band of "Silent Force" mastermind, Alex Beyrodt (also ex "Sinner"). Although on their debut album "Circle" strictly features members of the European rock/metal elite: Bassist Mat Sinner ("Primal Fear", "Sinner"), lead singer David Readman ("Pink cream 69"), drummer Mel Gaynor (Gary Moore band) and Key player Jimmy Kresic put together this fantastic line up.

Now, this being led by "Silent Force" six string ace, most would logically expect that Voodoo Circle sounds much like the previously mentioned Power metal act. That proves to be untrue, however as "Circle" sounds more like a heavier version of "Rainbow" with the occasional addition of neoclassical scales courtesy of Beyrodt. Indeed the rhythm section is not as up tempo as "Silent Force" while Alex seems to be utilizing vintage equipment ("Fender" Strats mostly) instead of his more modern ESP guitars a fact definitely affecting the end result in sounding more of a classic record with a strong 70s vibe.

Overall the album features high quality material (as expected by such a stellar line up) with explosive riffs, melodic solos, and a true voodoo rhythm section. This air of mysticism is spread throughout the album, yet even here one finds standout tracks such as "Spewing Lies", "Desperate Heart" and "Angels will cry".

"Voodoo Circle's" debut is not the catchiest of metal albums yet it does manage to sound extra aggressive and confident without going brutal.

A highly anticipated project amongst rock/metal communities, already becoming a sellout in most European Countries.

"Classic Rock" UK magazine (issue 128) comments on the album: "Beyrodt strikes rock gold with `Desperate Heart' and `Kingdom of the Blind'".

Incredibly, "Power Play" UK magazine (issue 106) marks this album with 10/10 as well as awarding it "Album of the month" for February 2009.

Amazing Melodic Metal Guitar Album
Robert M. Lisanti | Peekskill, New York USA | 12/06/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What a great album from start to finish...Alex Beyrodt ( Pink Cream 69 ) and David Readman ( also Pink Cream 69 0 have put together a fantastic album for us, guitar solos are simply amazing, and melodic, David souns awesome as usual. One of the best album for 2008! Dennis Ward produced so the production is loud and clear! a "must Have" for all fans of this genre. One gripe I would have is that I realize that this a "Homage" to Yngwie, Rainbow, Deep Purple, but the song Desperate heart sounds just like Yngwies song "Making Love" from the Eclipse album. otherwise no other gripes."
