Album Description
The viola works on this CD span centuries, from Bach to Hindemith. They all stress the individual, often melancholic sound of the instrument. Currently only a few violists are performing solo works for the instrument, and prominent among them is Esther Apituley, who studied in Amsterdam and Berlin, and today is a professor in Amsterdam. She is one of the few artists specializing in viola solo works but has also performed with the National Ballet Orchestra, the Metropole Orchestra and the Radio Chamber Orchestra. Her repertoire is very open to the different genres within classical music, from baroque to modern compositions.
