Album Description

Get set for a treat: This is Dr. Funk like you've never before heard him. During the later part of his career, Vince performed almost exclusively on the Fender Rhodes, but very little of this fabulous material ever saw retail exposure. Together with his combo - Vince Denham, sax; Koji, bass; and Mike Clark, drums - Vince Guaraldi takes us on a decidedly funk-inspired journey. The album includes two Peanuts songs making their CD debut, interpretations of two classic Beatles numbers, the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want," and more. The anchor for this project, though, is Guaraldi's catchy, whimsical original, "Oaxaca." Something old ... something new ... something borrowed ... and something full of blues. Sometimes, you CAN get what you want!

"This CD is a landmark for fans of the Fender Rhodes sound. Guaraldi's phrasing on "We've Only Just Begun" is so heart-warming, it rivals the smoothness of Karen Carpenter's original vocal. While electric jazz/rock fusion was all the rage at the time of this recording, Guaraldi brings his own unique vision to the trend and succeeds all around. Thank you David Guaraldi for finally getting this lost masterpiece released."
