There's no black/thrash album to match this

"It's hard to understand how there are still people in this worldwide metal community who do not like this album. This is the purest form of in your face savagery ever recorded except for maybe Metallica's Kill 'em all and Black flag's Damaged. But, taking into account that the genre of metal has been tainted so many times with worthless bands that have nothing to express but that nerdy " Satan we conjure you, we're utter losers with no girlfriends or a life for that matter" it all becomes ...well...understandable. Listen, if you like bands where you can discern one song from their next in this limited black metal genre then Venom is the band for you and particularly this album. Most listeners won't like this album at first, I know for one I didn't but with the second and third listen it all begins to be firmly drilled in and by that i mean more specifically the riffs. Cronos's words and vocal prowess are pure vocal debauchery while the songs are exactly what the rock genre should be made of... sex and Satan. Say bye to Dimmu Borgir, Darkthrone and Cradle of Filth. This is metal.

"While many believe this to be the album that originated all 'extreme metal' genres (thrash, black, death etc). The simple idea even without that is this album is great. From start to finish, this British trio (Cronos, Mantas, and Abaddon) pull off a masterful set of metal nuggets. While their obvious limited musicianship is there, you wont notice it. There was a certain spark of creativity on this record, making it extremely fresh and brutal. Even for most metal standards this is a bleak album. The real star of the album though is the production. It's about as terrible and primitive as you can get, which is what makes it that much better. The most well known cuts include the title track, Poison, Angel Dust and possibly Venom' most important contribution to metal: Witching Hour. A few lesser known songs though actually come off as real classics like Sons Of Satan, 1000 Days In Sodom, and In League With Satan. The remastered/expanded edition has a slew of bonus cuts, the best being the single that came out along with the album 'Bloodlust w/ In Nomine Satanas', also two of Venom's best songs and would go to become live staples. While some may say the Satanic concept has been done, these guys truely take it to new extremes. While Venom may not be exactly black or death metal, they definetly influenced both genres (along with other bands like Bathory, Kreator and Celtic Frost). The band remain controversial among the metal camp for the obvious tag of huge invention to our current underground metal scene but all that aside this record is righ up there with Master Of Puppets, Reign In Blood, Paranoid, Peace Sells, Among The Living and Blizzard Of Ozz as metal masterpieces."
Velcome!

"If you're going to criticize Venom by saying that they lack musical finesse, you might as well criticize Ramones for the same reason. Go ahead - - Venom gladly welcomes such pinheads to the place they should darned well know they can go. And I bet they like Ramones, too."
