If you're looking to sample the Top 40 of today's Christian contemporary pop, look no further than Wow Hits 2003. Thirty artists and tracks on this diverse release provide enough musical flavors to whet your appetite. While it's not a true snapshot of the year's best, major labels EMI Christian, Provident, and Word combine to create a collection that certainly captures a good share of the market. Generations of CCM pop are represented here with big name acts Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and Steven Curtis Chapman, alongside next-generation stars Third Day, Newsboys, Jars of Clay, and Point of Grace. Sweet-sounding highlights include TobyMac's "Irene," FFH's "Open Up the Sky," and Audio Adrenaline's "Ocean Floor." Nicole C. Mullen ("Talk About It") and Jennifer Knapp ("Say Won't You Say") also contribute worthy tracks and strong proof of the prosperity of singer-songwriters in today's Christian music. Also nice to see the inclusion of Paul Colman Trio's "Turn" as a bonus track, since the release was one of the year's finest moments for the genre. --Michael Lyttle

CD Reviews

WoW is getting better, but not there yet...

"While I will admit that this year they have a lot of really great songs- I think that many really do represent what the best in Christian Music is- it still seems to stay on the same groups as ususal, even if the CD's have been released quite some time ago. I find there is really no crtiterion to get on WoW, except that if your band is on the Big Three of Christian Music you have a better chance. I wish they would use some sort of real measure first, like CD sales or radio ratings, and then have a broad judging panel, and also bring in songs from smaller bands and more obscure groups. I hate the Camoflouge song- it's bad! Usually Plus One is good, but it sounds so weird! Yet, then again, all music is just a matter of opinion. The end word: buy the CD, mainly because any CD collection cannot hurt with it's addition. And some songs are REALLY good, most notably the one from Third Day (Come Togehter) and from Racheal Lampa (I'm All Yours)."
Every Christian must have

"If you love contemporary Christian music and praise & worship music, this has to find it's way into your CD collection. I listen to this over and over and never tire of it. There are so many artists and such a wonderful selection of music on the CD that if I was stuck on a desert isle with only 1...okay this is a 2 CD set, so if I only had 2 CDs to take to my island, I'd pick the blue & silver CDs from WOW 2003. Trust me, it's worth the $... you'll shell out for it."
The best WoW compilation yet!

"I admit I have only heard about 2 or 3 WoW sets but this is my favorite. I like the seperation of the different styles of rock and pop and here is the way they are situated:On the first disc it contains the soft rock and slow pop
On the second disc it contains all of the heavier rock and faster pop. My favorite disc is the second one but the first one has its highlights. I just prefer disc two overall. Well, anyway, pick up this CD while its still cheap and pick up WoW Gold which has some of the best Christian music from the 70s 80s and 90s!"
