If anyone could corner the millennium, Disney could. In presenting the theme music to its millennium celebration at Epcot Center in Florida, the megacorporation attempts a grand, musical year-2000 salute. Naturally, World Millennium Celebration weaves plenty of fiery brass, warm sting passages, stirring voices, and a mix of space romance and Earth adventure into the fabric of this fantasy work. Executive Music Producer Steve Skorija's task seems to be providing a backdrop for live performance, a scrim to unfurl behind the spectacle. And in doing so, the themes "Reflections of Earth," "We Go On," "Tapestry of Nations," "Promise," and "Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand" (complete as a gospel version as well) have an "Up with People" undercurrent that is ambiguous even as it is mildly diverting. On those merits, Millennium Celebration succeeds as a score. But for sheer entertainment value, the CD needs to give us more of the legendary mouse's magic and less of its roar. --Martin Keller

CD Reviews

DIsney Millinium Celebration was great

"This was a replacement CD for one I bought years ago while at Walt Disney World and somehow lost it. I bought this CD for one reason only. The wonderful soundtrack for the Millennium Celebration Parade at EPCOT "Tapestry of Nations". I saw this parade and when I got home listened to the music every single night for months. As far as I am concerned this parade was the most unique in all of Disney Theme Parks History. It has a great story, amazing parade units and, most important of all, a spectacular musical score that was totally unique. Instead of a typical parade style, this music was arranged as a full orchestral score with choir. The music changed during the parade with different rhythms and styles which changed whenever the Parade Units changed. And it had a story for the Millennium. The Sage Of Time once walked this Earth and found that all was well, people around the world lived in peace and got along with each other. When he came back 1,000 years later, this was no longer true. People fought over everything. Land, each other, beliefs, etc. It is now 1,000 years later and The Sage of Time has returned to walk the Great Millennium Walk. The Sage appeared at the very beginning of the parade as a golden man dressed in fine robes and clothing and carrying a great staff. He was about 14 feet tall and was the most regal thing I had ever seen. He was followed by giant drums that where played by two drummers on each drum float, one on each side. There was a giant drum in the middle (standing on it's side) surrounded by smaller drums in a ring that rotated. Plus other drums on the railings around the float. Then came the etheral parade units with consisted of giant puppets that changed for each segment of the Parade and the puppetteers below them were also costumed and very much a part of the entire show. Throughout the Parade the Sage of Time would talk about how now was the time for peace to return and mankind to join together to make it happen. It was a very emotional parade. This parade ran for over three years before leaving. Videos of the Tapestry of Nations Parade can be found on You Tube and the soundtrack is the full show, minus the narration. Also on this CD are the soundtrack for the huge fireworks show EPCOT did for the Millennium."
