CD Reviews

Over Four Hours of Engaging World Music
12/27/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The word "trance" might confuse some... this is not dance music, and it is not sedative. The music chosen for these four CDs is intended as "a mix of mysticism, exultation, and enchantment.... convincing testimony that music is a great universal language, emotional balm and powerful medium, bringing love and spiritual revelation." (that's from the producer's words in the booklet)If you are at all familiar with world music then some of the names will be familiar to you: Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Cesaria Evora, Sheila Chandra, Madredeus, Mercedes Sosa, Loop Guru, Marta Sebestyen (the woman whose voice opens the film English Patient).... this is a beautiful collection and a great sampler of dozens of artists."
I own the entire Trance Planet Series

"I discovered Triloka's Trance Planet Series by accident, and I ws completely hooked! It is what got me started on a lifelong love affair with global music as a genre. If you have a chance to own this set, any or all of the volumes, don't pass it up! This set goes with me every time I go on long distance drives as the first thing I pack! A listening pleasure that never grows old. Check out also "Chant Planet" from Triloka, which is also excellent! If I could rate this series higher than five stars, I would!"
