CD Reviews

A Pretty Good Compilation at a Very Good Price
E. Jones | Indiana USA | 02/09/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have just about every "space age pop" compilation out there, and while this one may not be quite as good as Capitol's "Ultra Lounge" or Rhino's "Cocktail Mix," the three-for-one price makes this an essential. The sound quality is uneven; two or three of the tracks sound so bad I don't know why they included them, but the rest sound fine. Also, there is very little overlap between the selections here and on the other compilations that you probably already have if you're a fan of this kind of music, so it's a great addition to any collection."
A very nice collection.

"This is one of those 'just the music, ma'am' collections from Europe--no liner notes at all--but very well chosen. I couldn't point to a single dud in the entire set. They stretch the concept of "space age" music by including tracks like Raymond Scott's from the 1930s and Anton Karas' "Third Man Theme", but in reality they fit the mood of the others, and it doesn't hurt to have your concepts stretched once in a while.

Sound quality varies, with the older tracks showing their age, but none of them are bad. Some care went into this set.

I've listened to this set often already, and will probably play it a lot more. I wish I could get whoever assembled this collection to program a radio station."
