Serious New York Dance Music from Back in the Day
Steven Marchese | Minneapolis, MN USA | 04/11/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD takes my right back to my New York roots. It recalls memories of high school days and hot summers with 98.7KISS on the radio. It's amazing how 20 years have not aged these cuts very much. This compilation of hits from Prelude Records, the font of NY dance music that supported the transition from disco to garage and house, captures some of the best of the early 80's scene. Artists like France Joli, Sharon Redd, and Gayle Adams were part of the stable of divas (along with Jocelyn Brown, Gwen McRae and Loleatta Holloway) that sustained dance music through the post-disco era, proving that a good voice still carried the day. Cuts like "You're the One for Me", "Must Be the Music" and "Body Music" pointed the direction away from standard late 70's disco to the harder, edgier, more electric world that followed in the mid-80's. This is the sound of transition. It should be mandatory listening for anyone seriously interested in understanding the roots of millenial dance music. I also guarantee you will hop, bounce, skate and shake your leg warmers to this one."
Back in da daze !

"I was so happy to find this CD.

I owned the original record (Double album) when it came out.

I remember I taped it on to a cassette and played it all day long on my ghetto blaster on my holidays in Spain.

I was the talk of the town hahaha I had the best remixes and the best music around. All the girls gathered around me on the beach :-)

Even then Prelude prooved to understand the significance of the songs remixed for this album.

Today they all proove to be classics in this genre, and classic recordings on their own.

Whether it's D Train, Unlimited Touch, Sharon Redd or Gayle Adams - they all still stand firmly today.

I can only recommend to buy this whole series and organize an old school party and be the talk of the town, like I was 25 years ago in Spain."
