CD Reviews

Beautiful And Eloquent
Brock Petrie | Babbitt, MN USA | 06/29/2003

"After hearing the compilation on the radio, I searched far and wide for this album, without much luck I might add. With only the possible album title "Piano Solos" to go from, you can imagine how long it took. I must admit, I never knew so many albums had the title Piano Solos... Finally I found myself a copy, and eagerly whipped out my credit card; and let me tell you, it was worth the search.Piano Solos from Narado Lotus is a beautiful collection of piano pieces from ten prominent Narada pianists. Each song has its own flavor and style, with each song being unique in its own subtle way. From the playful "First Rain" by Spencer Brewer, to the expressive "Turning" by Bob Read, to the soulful "Cypress" by Wayne Gratz, the compilation explores every musical style a person could ask for, all on one album. Among my favorites on the CD are "Gentle Earth and Sky"- a wonderfully uplifting piece in its entirety, "Cypress", "Turning", "August 23" - forget it... every song on the album is a favorite. This is a CD worth buying; you won't be disappointed."
A Perfect Hour of Piano Music
S. Cairns | Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, United Kingdom | 05/09/2003

"Devotees of piano music cannot really go wrong with this excellent collection of original piano solos. With contributions by such outstanding pianists as Wayne Gratz, Michael Jones, Michael Gettel and Kostia, it is little wonder that there is so much to enjoy here. The musicians obviously have different styles, from the delicate, meandering touch of Michael Jones to the joyous free-spirit of Wayne Gratz. A great ear for melody is the common bond that exists between all the contributors.Highlights are in abundance, but mention must go to Gratz's "So Close" and Brian Mann's "The Teacher". The latter, as a teacher myself, holds particular appeal; the general calm suddenly interrupted by an explosion of notes (now which child had irritated the teacher?) Impressive stuff indeed.Around an hour's worth of music offering plenty to enjoy. The CDs notes are interesting, revealing the relationship between musician and piano, it's history and subsequent growth.Narada has done it again. Very highly recommended."
A Total Suprise

"This entire cd opened my ears to some excellent solo piano. I have enjoyed every song many times. Great as background but be careful ... you can get lost in the statement made by each pianist in every tune here. All compositions are well crafted and the entire cd borders on a magicial quality. Makes me wish I knew how to play piano but what a delight just to kick back and enjoy. Great stuff. A beautiful cd."
