CD Reviews

Oakey is still great, his records have just changed
04/05/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"oakey is still as great as he's ever been. The only reason people seem to think that he is losing his touch is because his sound has changed so much over the last couple of years. His latest album IBIZA confirms this notion. IBIZA is nothing like the oakenfold so many people came to know and love during '98, '99, and the first half of 2000. People don't seem to realize that when the dance industry shifts to progressive music, djs must shift as well. A dj can only be as good as the records that are being produced. Since most trance of 2001 and 2002 is complete trash, oakey has gone three quarters prog. One day trance will return to its former glory, and oakenfold will too, if people will refrain from assassinating his character. In closing i would like to say this mix is not actually a five; it is a four. I gave it a five to over ride the previous three that was a partisan attack against prog, and not indicative of this albums quality."
Good Mix from Oakenfold but not as good as his other Mixes.

"Whenever Oakenfold Releases a New CD I dont even look at the TrackListing Cause I know that it will be a different Class from the other DJ Mixes such as Judge Jules ie.
He starts of CD 1 with a Dreamy Euphoric Tune, with his trademark Vocals singing over trippy trance, then he continues the Journey right to track 4 Flash - Megatron where he lifts the Tempo getting a bit harder, however, track 5 Elektonauts it goes into a different sound then the previous tracks, Timo Mass style beats which doesnt really appeal to me. He continues this into Radiohead - Idoteque which is an improvement from the last track. Then he kicks back into his trademark sound with track 7 Accadia - into the dark, however track 8 is that timo mass sound. The next 2 tracks are good on that CD completing an overall Good Disc 1. Disc 2 starts of with 3 good tracks then goes into Pete Tong Kinda Funk which doesnt appeal either but from there on it is uphill, all the tracks after that resemble a typical Oakenfold Set, such as Creamfields Ireland which i had the pleasure of seeing Live, and the rest of this cd is a carbon copy of the end of his set. Overall this is a good CD but doesnt have the Oakenfold Magic his earlier CDs had, maybe thats the effet America has had on him, who knows but Oakey - COME HOME!"
