CD Reviews

Oh-so-close to five.

"Here's my gripe: anyone who buys this compilation will do so for the glut of the biggest names in electronica on the first disc. The surprising fact of the matter is that disc one is only standard fare and is all but forgotten when disc two is discovered. The Chem. Bros. VP remix is a novel but terribly obnoxious (for real fury, try the Komakino track) ploy worthwhile only in bringing the artistry of disc two. Every track is an epic, truly spanning the full techno spectrum. Surface 10, Giez, and others exhibit small ambient masterpieces, complemented perfectly by an adequate harder line. I no longer listen to the first disc."
Take the time to listen to it all... it will surprise you.

"I got this CD a while ago and although I listened to it, only recently did I really pay close attention to the music on it. Now I wish I had been paying more attention all along. There are very few songs on here, if any, that I don't enjoy. I bought it for the names on it I recognized, but the stuff I had never heard of is even better (for example, Sunbeam and Komakino). Not to mention that it's two discs for the price of one. What more could you ask?"
Very worthwhile CD compilation

"A lot of times these various artist CDs can be hit and miss. Especially when it comes to electronic dance music. This one, however, is more hits than misses. Much more. I bought this CD because of a couple of remixes on the first disk that I wanted. I ended up getting much more than I bargained for.

The first disk is packed with famous electronica artists having remixes done by other famous electronica artists. These aren't just slight remixes. They are almost complete revamps of the original music, and good ones at that. I have found particular favorites like AQUALITE, VOODOO PEOPLE, and MINDSTREAM (granted two are the songs I bought the CD for). I also found other really good songs in RENEGADE SOUNDWAVE (I have the original mix... very different... very nice), CLOWN, INSTRUMENTS OF DARKNESS, and REUNITED. I can't remember off the top of my head on the others ones in this CD, but I do believe there are at least a couple more winners here.

Not to be outdone by the popular boys in EDM the second CD has become a major surprise. Thinking disk two was a throw away I was blown away by the cool tracks on this disk. THE BA AND THE KA being a particular favorite, however I would say at least half the second CD has some real winners ranging from crazy-fast dancefloor music to transcendental ambient music that even Brian Eno would be proud of.

The two CD set fits into a single CD case with that little flip tray inside. Not the best way to pack the disks, but it does save space. I bought this CD years ago at full price and never looked back. It was well worth it. Seeing now how the price for new ones are down and used ones are even less expensive I would say it's a crime for EDM fans not to grab one."
