Amazon.com It benefits a great cause (preschool education for all American children), its star-studded lineup makes you want to have a listen regardless of your station in life (college kid, mother of quintuplets), and its stylishly askew songs are masterfully sequenced (Dixie Chicks chug into Madonna, Jack Johnson gives way to Moby), so that each track comes across a pleasant surprise. The only problem with Mary Had a Little Amp, if there is one, is its title, which gives the impression that it's a hard-rocking affair when mostly it's not. For example, R.E.M. rightfully conjures images of cranking amps, but here the band tones it down with the playful, hyper-rhythmic "We Walk." And Bonnie Raitt, saluted as much for her slide guitar chops as her singing, turns in a snuggly rendition of "Baby Mine" from Dumbo. --Tammy La Gorce Similarly Requested CDs

The covers are great "versions" of the originals, and the original tracks are great additions to the overall feel of this CD. Maroon 5's "Pure Imagination" is fantastic, as is The Dixie Chick's "The Rainbow Connection." It's a great CD to listen to together and it doesn't drive you crazy after the fifth time because it's kinda "rockin'". If your children are strictly into "kiddie" types of music, i.e. Laurie Berkner, this probably isn't going to be their thing. My daughter is older and is, thankfully, expanding her musical tastes. This is something we both enjoy, minus the singing veggies and all...I highly recommend this to more mature children." We have an extensive music library including everything from the MOldy Peaches to They Might Be Giants to Ralph Covert to Dan Zanes. And as a whole we love musicthat makes you want to dance. As my two year old stated yucky. And I have to agree, we rather listen to CSN original verision of Teach Your Children or any of CSN songs, And Madonna album has better sounding songs then the Little Star honestly get the original verision of the songs. We did not get any further then song 6 which is Baby of Mine, so the album may improve after the 6 song, but I would be suprised." A few really great songs K. I agree with the previous reviewer that the Maroon 5 song is just too dark. If you are looking for a great kids album that you can tolerate listing to over and over again, I recommend buying the original "For the Kids" instead; that CD didn't leave my car disc player for 5 months! No joke!"
