Synopsis

Product Description
The second volume in Ace's most talked about new series in some time carries us further into the 1960s with another fantastic selection of US and UK hits, flops and flips that all saw their first UK release on the famous silver and black logo of London-American.1961's 28 tracks include 20 US Hot 100 hits, 14 of which also made the UK Top 50. Importantly - and for Ace's regular customers especially - only one of the 28 has ever been released on Ace CD previously. All of London's big hitmakers of the time are represented and all tracks are again presented in glorious mono - exactly as they were heard on the original 45s.Wherever possible, the original London tapes were transferred and digitised, to preserve maximum authenticity. More than 80% of the tracks you hear here are taken from those tapes.Given the critical acclaim that greeted our 1960 release we have no doubt that 1961 will receive a similar reception. 2010 will also see the release of 1962 and 1959's contributions to this series.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ace's excellent recapturing of obscure (sometimes) early rock & roll hits/songs continues. As hoped in my review of 1960, Ace is running through some more years; well at least one. Since it's a late February 2010 release ya gotta think 1962 lurks. There is always an obligatory American #1 (Moody River this time) which is a good song. But it's the low or non-charting songs that catch my $$. I had Boo Hoo on 45 before I sold most of them and enjoyed listening to it now and then (as well as I Can't Forget on the flip). Great to have it back without having to buy a Marvin Rainwater collection to find it. One reason it perks me up when there are obscure songs is that there are always a few I either never heard or long forgot. Sure a couple deserved to be never heard but there are jewels to be found on each Ace compilation of this nature. So, it's for the likes of Boo Hoo, Naomi, Weekend and Girls that you should plunk down the bucks. (And on a personal note [as if this whole review isn't!]Ghost Riders in the Sky was my Top 40 radio show theme song in the late 60s.)"
