"Where do I begin? What the Wordsound posse accomplished with this record was to shake the foundations of music immediately, and for many years to come. I say that not to sound grandiose or insincere, but as a true fact. Never before had the free, hypnotic sound of Jamaican Dub been taken to the places that the Crooklyn Dub Consortium explored. I cannot over-emphasise the crooked genius of this album... the songs all exude originality and vitality, but with an attitude that is 100% gritty New York albeit informed by Eastern philosophies and the idea that music should take you to higher places spiritually, because this truly is music to feed your soul. Avoiding cliches like they never heard a corny track in their lives, the consortium is on an undercover mission, to save the world of sound! If you're hungry for original beats hitting your eardrums and unfolding like a flower before you, you need to pick up this album. I haven't even mentioned that it features "Crooked" by spectre, which would later provide the concept for the acclaimed movie of the same name. For almost a decade, Wordsound have provided a radiant matrix for all rebels and lovers of original sounds to enjoy, and this is the record that put them on the map. I find it hard to highlight certain songs because they are all stand-outs. Given the low numbers of units pressed up for early WS releases, though, you'll be lucky to still find a copy. Luckily they've just re-released Vols 1 & 2 as a double CD. As another reviewer said, keep this sound alive and support Wordsound!"
