"James Horner is one of 'those' guys - the people you think of first when asked for a film score composer. John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, and Horner fairly constitute the Big 3 of late 20th Century film score composition. In Clear and Present Danger, Horner delivers another excellent turn. "The Ambush" stands out among a great selection, and the anticipation of the impending assault is heightened considerably by the music.
It's true that some elements will remind you of Horner's previous work (I particularly recognize pieces from the Star Trek series and Aliens). Of course, when you've scored Field of Dreams, Glory, Braveheart and Titanic, among many more, you're drawing from some of the best film music ever created! It's no longer available directly from Amazon, so do some digging and you'll uncover another Horner touchdown."
