Crooner Christmas Heaven!
D. COLLIER | Brownwood, TX United States | 10/11/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What Christmas would be complete without a big band crooner-style carol collage? This album gives new meaning to the word "nostalgic". At the beginning you have Bing Crosby, a big band, and ladies singing backup, telling youIf the traffic noise affects you
like a squeaky violin,
kick your cares down the stairs!
Come to Holiday Inn!I also really enjoyed Dennis Day singing the original words to "O Come All Ye Faithful": "Adeste Fideles". One thing that happens twice during the course of the CD is the point in which the singer (or another person) speaks directly to the audience. It occurs on Track #9 when someone says (in what must have been a concert performance, probably performed during the golden days of radio), "And now, for a little change of pace, we've sent Johnny Mercer to the bandstand to join Paul Weston and the Pied Pipers in a nostalgic song of Christmastime: 'Winter Wonderland'".It also happens right before the final song on the CD: "To you: a man, a woman, a child we have never but think of as a friend, this is Nelson Eddy wishing you a Christmas complete with the pleasure and excitement of giving and receiving presents and warm and inspiring with its spiritual beauty..."If you grew up with this kind of music (in other words, you have turned 25 years old 25 times or more), then this CD is definitely for you. If you're a kid, or perhaps even a grandkid of someone who grew up with this kind of music, then this CD is for you too. I didn't grow up with this kind of music (unless griping every time my dad put it on the radio counts). But I wish I had. This is wonderful Christmas music that transcends generational barriers. I highly recommend it."
