Synopsis

Album Description
For nearly two decades, the Christmas edition of Brian O'Donovan's radio program, A Celtic Sojourn, has been a seasonal highlight for public radio audiences. This tradition has now inspired the extraordinary holiday concert presented on this CD. Says O'Donovan, "Our initial idea was simple: replicate the gatherings that we love to have at this time of year with family and friends. Share some songs, read some poetry, tell a few stories, and dance. We simply decided to expand the guest list!" Here is a delightful panoply of Celtic Christmas songs, superbly recorded. Nollaig faoi shona dhuit (Merry Christmas)!

"A musically resplendent stroll through Celtic Midwinter" -The Boston Globe

CD Reviews

Inconsistent, true...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"...as a previous reviewer noted. I thought one or two of the tracks were pretty forgettable (Mary's Boy Child, Miss Fogarty's Christmas Cake), despite the evident talent of some the artists (particularly Fionnuala O'Donovan).

However: Navan's rendition of "Silent Night" is a piece of jaw-dropping beauty, as is "Ambran Oiche Mhaith (Song of Night)."

I'm not much into that tin pan alley, Danny-boy and Celtic Woman version of Celtic music...Navan is more my cup of tea. So don't just buy this CD; pick up Lowena.

While you're at it, grab Kitka's Wintersongs.

Then, your Christmas music collection will be complete. Even if you're an atheist like me. ;)"
