More than 3000 concerts at the four corners of the earth, no fewer than 140 recordings which have unearthed an almost interminable list of Baroque treasures (indeed, not only Baroque!): now there's an achievement that deserves a moment's reflection. Not that it is time for a comprehensive survey of this life's work - that would be premature! But it is very much the appropriate moment to celebrate the jubilee of Jean-Claude Malgoire.

The K617 label was honor bound to accompany such a special year, along with all the friends of this charismatic musician - after all, it's a date that only comes round again every fifty years...But then let us not forget that, with him, jubilation is more even than a second nature. In fact, it is, - with his omnivorous artistic appetite - the most striking feature of this top-rank instrumentalist who went on to become an outstanding muscicologist and high-flying conductor. Hence Malgoire, more than any other French musician, embodies an adventure; he is the emblem of an epic struggle to break down towering prejudices and centuries of neglect, which ensured the re-emergence in its pristine glory of a whole chapter of musical history that had been unfairly eclipsed and abused.
