As one of the three most influential USA cities in house music, alongside Chicago and New York, San Francisco possesses a vibe that is distinctly different from its sister cities. With its down-to-earth mentality and relaxed lifestyle, S.F. has helped cultivate the sexy, warm style of house that we now call the West Coast Sound. This city by the sea is also home to some of the world?s finest DJs that have perpetuated the S.F. sound and helped it progress in front of a worldwide audience. Names like Mark Farina, Wicked Crew, Hardkiss, Dubtribe, Miguel Migs, MFR, Kaskade, Jay-J, Chris Lum, Julius Papp and countless others continue to keep the San Francisco sound fresh and decidedly funky. CD ReviewsPlays fine on my iPod, and is a great album, too. ekkomusic | Cleveland, OH USA | 02/16/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "First of all, I don't know what kind of problems W. Frick is having below. A) The CD clearly states "These CDs are protected against unauthorized duplication." on the back of the CD packaging in the lower lefthand corner. B) I was able to import both discs into iTunes without a problem on both my iMac and my iBook, and uploaded them to my iPod immediately. Not a single problem at all. What I'm really sorry to see is this CD's star ranking suffer because of his inability to get it to work, because the two disks that make up this title are fantastic. I bought it on a whim while picking up Bargroove's Mimosa and this has quickly become my favorite CD (of the week.) I also have Afterdark New York, which was kind of "so so" to me, so I wasn't expecting to love this one at all...Julius Papp's "Drum de Voodo," Solstice's "Fall Into You," and Kaskades' "What I Say" are big highlights and will probably find a way into my own DJ set rotations very soon." Luckily they fixed this problem with future entries in the AFTERDARK series. Disc one is incredible! It was mixed by DJ MFR. The mixing is very clean and distinct between songs. Very uplifting house! The second disc was mixed by David Ireland and is a completely different beast! The mixing is very different from disc one. Disc two is great as well! Worth checking out!" How can you not love it! J. Whether it was DJ MFR or David Ireland every time a new track drops you'll say "Damn". Very smooth, very funky. Perfect for a cocktail party at the house, a drive to the bar on a Friday Night, your gym routine, or your drive to work. I can't really choose which is better between the 2 discs. So I'll comment on both.
Disc 1 - This is my first listen to DJ MFR. This guy is unbelievable. Track selection great, not as good as David Ireland's, but he excels in his transitions and mixing. Highlights: Migs - City People Julius Papp - Drums De Voodoo (This f&^%&n track is insane) Jay-J & chris Lum - Funky Stuff Migs - The Rising Sun Disc 2 - As eluded to in an earlier review David Ireland's mixing is subpar but wow does he make up for it in his track selection. Every track is phenomenal. This CD is a conversation killer b/c all you find yourself doing shutting your mouth and absorbing the beats. The vocals he chooses are very sexy and no cheese included. Every track is great but here are the choice cuts: Soulstice - Fall Into You (Dark, Infectious beat and vocal) King Kooba - Fooling Myself Kaskade - It's You, It's Me West Magnetic - Can't Stop You won't stop listening once you buy it.
