Shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan is alive and well. He was recently awarded by the highest civilian award by the Government of India, Bharat Ratna (Indian Jewel) in 2001. Though in his eighties, he regularly practices on his shehnai and occassionally gives public performances. Lastly, I know about him as I hail from his hometown in India (Varanasi)." Alas!
