CD Reviews

Great voice and guitar, good songs, intimate recording.

"My first and (so far) only T&P recording. I was prepared for Patti Cathcart's wonderful voice from the songs that had received radio play, but I was suprised by the swing and technical virtuosity of Tuck Andress' guitar.Even though it's just a guitar and a voice, none of the songs here should feel cheated due to a lack of artistic attention. There's a wide range of material (Gershwin/Santana/Lerner/Hendrix), but the songs are presented in styles true to the original. I can imagine George and Ira and Jimi all listening and saying "yeah - yeah that's about right".There are lots of special moments on this CD that I listen to over and over, such as Patti's intro to "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and Tuck's seamless bridge in the Hendrix. They are at their best on this CD when interpreting other's music, though, as the original compositions (there are two) are not the strongest.Recording quality is very good, although Patti's voice does seem to wander between the speakers at times.I enjoy this musical format, as it allows a pair of creative musicians the freedom to experiment with different styles without worrying too much about instrumentation. Tuck and Patti use this freedom to great advantage and have created some interpretations which are unique and true to the original at the same time."

"This is the first cd produced by Patti[although the firct one "tears of joy" won a grammy for best new jazz artists]...Mixed in a muted fashion, it requires a lot of volume on the stereo. It contains many songs destined to become concert favorites.Little Wing/Castles Made of Sand took a stroke of genius to combine and is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes-you just know Jimi is sayin'yeah! If you see them in concert and Tuck does not do Europa you have got to go back!A fine second effort from the world's greatest guitar player and jazz vocalist who just happen to be soul mates and performing for our benefit."

"This is quite a nice CD for when you are in a mellow mood... I especially like Castles Made of Sand/Little Wing, really a brilliant interpretation for my (Hendrix loving) money. Also Cantador is beautiful."
