CD Reviews

Tower of Power collection ROCKS
Mary P. Ferguson | va beach, va | 08/20/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The perfect addition to our collection. We have all the older TOP albums and many CDs, but this anthology is just what we needed to fill in the gaps. Perfect Road Trip collection."
Doin' the Oakland Stroke

(4 out of 5 stars)

"The pride of the Avenues, the soul of the Bay, the downtown funk that set the house dancin', and the cars bouncin'!

Tower of Power was one of the premier bands of the '70s. Argue if you like, but just listen to this fine, if abbreviated, two CD set of dump-ugly funk, yearning soul, and horn honking Hah! gotchya!

This set has the shout out horns of "Knock YrSelf Out", the sweet purr of "Sparkling in the Sand", the burnt rubber of "Down to the Nightclub", the story of "Your Still a Young Man", and the demand hit, "You Oughta Be Havin' Fun".

I recommend all TOP CDs/LPs/45s/ but if you wanna know What Is Hip..

this be it.

"I had only 1 original CD of TOP and 2 old cassette tapes (remember that crap ?) a friend of mine recorded for me...

I wanted to buy a good collection and this double CD album was (and still is) a good choice.

you have to go and see them live, they are truly a bunch of amazing musicians."
