CD ReviewsEarly Bennett pop and pop-swing classics Nikica Gilic | Zagreb, Croatia | 10/31/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "This 3 cd box (3 albums - "Cloud 7", "Tony" and "The Beat of My Heart" + some welcome bonus tracks) is very very pleasing, particularly if you like this classic - style american crooning.
Bennnet is in fine form; fresh and young, with more than half songs at least slightly swinging (among players on these three albums are Chuck Wayne, Jo Jones, Art Blakey...)... What's there not to like? I must add that the liner notes are a bit too short, the box design is far from perfect, but when it comes to music it's sooooooo smooth and lovely. Since the last of 3 albums most jazzy of the three, it's my favorite, but other stuff is great as well." |
