CD Reviews

"Ah yes. Steve Austin and Co. So I guess I should write a positive review. One that is completely driven on the sole fact it is cool to like Today is the Day; a review that should ignore everything else about this band but that fact that Steve Austin's cult following think he is the Second Coming, which in turn results in others liking him...and so on and on and on. I should just accept it, I guess. I mean, if I don't blindly like this band, I must not be "real" with myself, or with other people. Steve Austin's music is just so real and honest, who couldn't like it?

I don't like it. I think this gun wielding, cowardly, rotten hot dog eating (according to the liner notes of Temple of the Morning Star) is nothing but an insecure, hollowed out shell who thinks that his childish, sophomoric, poorly written and realized lyrics are passable because it "comes from somewhere real and honest". You know what I did the first time I heard "TITD"? I laughed. I laughed long and hard. "Real and honest, Real and honest, Real and honest". So what?

If you have heard one of these albums, you have heard them all. You want to know what the highlight of this album and other TITD albums is? Not Steve Austin. Dailor kills on this one. Elrod is an amazing drummer as well. And for whatever reason, Roddy has signed on to do their new one "Axis of Eden". What a clever name. Hey, no one got it Steve-O, evil and the religious right. You are a subtle one. But guess what? Even the brilliance of those three skinsmen, can't overshadow the screeching, inane, over-layered vocals of a guy who says he hates the world, but has a MYSPACE. Who continually puts Satanic images and lyrics in his songs. Yet says Jesus is one of his heroes on his MYSPACE. Are you kidding me Steve Austin? MYSPACE? How many friend requests have you received and given out in the past month? Steve, you are so evil, how can Jesus be your hero...your fans are going to hang you Steve. Ha, ha, ha.

You want to know why I haven't talked about the content of his songs? Simple, no one else does, even if they like it. Go read reviews on AMAZON, or anywhere else on the internet, all you will read is how dark and depressing this stuff is; how you will want to kill yourself. Hey, TITD fans, no one is stopping you...just go do it. Austin, you obviously are miserable...take a flying leap.

Oh, but Steven is so uncompromising. Right, which is why he has worked with the likes of Slipknot, perhaps the biggest hypocrites and liars in all of metal. Steven, if you have trouble making money, just go play bass on Britney Spears album; you've already lost all credibility. You want uncompromising? Meshuggah is probably the most uncompromising metal band you will ever hear. How about Converge? They pummel Today is the Day. And those of you who right now are about to have the thought pop into your head "Today is the Day's influence is undeniable, they paved the way...blah, blah, blah" when the taught surpasses the teacher, the teacher becomes void. You want to know the most influential band in metal music ever, who to this day arguably could out play bands that followed in their path? Death. Chuck Schuldiner, simply put, is THE true front man. An uncompromising visionary who could out play, out write, and out scream the pitiful Austin. Schuldiner signed talented musicians to compliment his immense talent. You do the math.

You want to hear a truly dark and suffocating album? Godflesh's "Streetcleaner" impales this tripe. It is a great album, with feelings and emotions that can only be described as dark and disturbing. Austin's music is empty, void, talent-less, stupid. He has to sign on far superior musicians from album to album just to hide the fact that he can't play the guitar. And he has to layer his screaming vocals to hide the fact that, really, they are weak and flaccid.

That enough from me. Your clicks of "review was not helpful" only prove me right. While your leader continues to hide."

"Real anger. Real hatred. Real songs. Today Is The Day absorb negative energy and spit it back in your face with the subtlety of the world's end. This will be the funeral march for the masses."
